Age: 18
History: The world of Mahoyaku is incredibly divided - there are five incredibly distinct countries, and on top of that the population is divided into humans and wizards. Wizards are, to put it simply, treated with an incredible amount of prejudice - they’re feared and hated and many in the East, where Heathcliff hails from, decide to live in secrecy for their own comfort and safety. The world is also plagued by the Calamity - the moon of their world causes chaos and destruction, and must be fought off this year by wizards summoned by a person known as the Sage, who comes from another world.
Heathcliff was the first wizard born into one of the Eastern Country’s major noble families, and was raised to succeed his father. His parents didn’t know how to help their son, and decided to find him and Shino Sherwood (a wizard close to Heathciff’s age that was a servant for the Blanchett’s) a teacher. They hired a wizard (and conman) named Jack, not knowing that was the worst option - Jack tricked Heathcliff and Shino into promising to protect each other, and for a wizard, breaking a promise is one of the worst things you can do as a wizard who breaks their promise will lose their magic.
Heathcliff and Jack are then summoned to fight the Calamity. Jack dies in the battle, but Heathcliff is saved by an older, Eastern wizard named Faust. More wizards - including Shino - are summoned to prepare for the next fight with the Calamity. The chosen wizards also begin taking on missions to deal with the fallout of the last, oddly terrible visit of the Calamity.

- ⬥ What does your character consider to be their top 3 strengths?
His ability to break down complex problems and find a solution. His compassion and ability to care for others, and his dedication.
⬥ What do others consider to be your character's worst weakness?
The way Heathcliff feels about himself - he lacks confidence and self-esteem, which holds himself from doing his best. He hates himself for being a wizard, and others often say he needs to have more pride in himself and doubt himself less.
⬥ How does your character interact with others?
Heathcliff is very polite and respectful, largely due to his upbringing. He tries his best to be as kind and understanding as possible, though he does occasionally get flustered and frustrated with others. It’s rare, but he does sometimes get snappish, though mostly with people he knows well.
⬥ What motivates or drives your character?
He wants to protect who he can, and he doesn’t want to break his promise with Shino. Shino is incredibly important to Heathcliff, and he feels guilty for what might happen to him. He also just wants to make the world a safer, more equal place for people, largely due to meeting people like Shino.
⬥ How does your character spend their free time?
Heathcliff enjoys engineering and creating various clockwork objects, as well as metalwork or goldsmithing. He’s very enthusiastic about this, as he enjoys tasks that are intricate and detail oriented and has a very incredible passion for machinery. He sees machinery as something that makes people’s lives better, so he wants to learn how everything works.
⬥ What is your character's greatest desire?
For his family and friends to be safe. The Calamity is more dangerous than ever, and is putting the entire world at risk.
Powers: •Transformation - He can use magic to transform himself and others. He can change his physical appearance and transform others into animals such as birds, mice, etc.
•Affliction - An uncontrollable transformation into a panther, both partially or completely. He is incredibly strong and agile in this form, but has no memories of his actions during this transformation.
•Elemental Manipulation - The ability to create and have control over things such as air, water, fire.
•Magical Attacks - Releasing magical energy in a way that cuts, burns, or shatters objects. Energy blasts, basically.
•Freezing people in place by stopping their movement through time. This is one of Heath's specialties.
•Flight - Though only on a broom.
•Magical Sugar - The creation of sugar that has restorative properties. It can boost energy and heal minor aches and injuries.
•Healing - Healing the injuries of himself and others, to the point where cuts don’t leave scars. However, he can’t heal very severe injuries or illnesses.
•Telekinesis - Can levitate/move objects.
•Enchantment - Objects such as clothing, paper, etc, can be enchanted with things such as protection spells that will absorb damage. Potentially with other abilities as well, but protection is the most common within canon.
•Emotion Manipulation - Magic can be used to influence someone’s emotions, both in positive ways (encouraging them, soothing them, etc) or negative (inducing fear, sadness, etc).
A wizard's magical ability is tied to both experience, education, and the strength of their heart. Heath is powerful for his age, especially considering his education was severely lacking, but he can’t compare to many of the older wizards just yet. He is also prone to doubt, shame, and is very sensitive, so his magic can be weakened that way. Also, when a wizard dies, they turn to stone and shatter into something referred to as a “mana stone”. Mana stones hold a wizard’s magical power, and can be consumed by other wizards to increase their strength.
Inventory:•Magical Artifact - A pocket watch gifted to him by his father, imbued with magical energy.
•Broom - A broom that can be used for flight.
•Amulet - A satchel filled with strongly scented things such as herbs and wood chips. It helps recharge and stabilize Heathcliff’s magic.
